'Groovey' Joe Poovey - Greatest Grooves
Dragon Street Records DCD-70199
Roller Coaster RCCD 3037 (Europe)

The third release on the Big 'D' Jamboree Legends series by Dragon Street in the USA and Rollercoaster in Europe was going to mean the comeback of Joe Poovey but sadly he died just a few days before its release. Just taking a look to the track listing you see that this new album gatters up the best of Joe Poovey; from Rockabilly to his own Honky Tonk Country style, from his firsts 45's for several Texas based labels like Eagle or Dixie in 1957 to his late adventures together Bryan Freeze for Living Records in 1997.

The effort made by David Dennar to compile these 24 cuts has its recompense in a great album which means a review to 40 years in Joe's life and career and it should put him in the right place between the stars of the Texas roots music history.

This is a must not only for the newcomers to the Rockabilly music but for the more experts and collectors, the first ones will be trapped by the rolling rhythm of Move around or Teen Long Fingers, the second ones will find a ton of reasons to get the CD, between them the 12 page booklet full of rare pictures and a detailed biography.

The European version has 6 more tracks plus the open-out cardboard sleeve so usual on the always wellcome Rollercoaster Records productions.
