|Ready To Go, Wild Wax Combo
Enviken Records, ENREC124
Wild Wax Combo is a 3-piece rockabilly band from Copenhagen, Denmark. The band was formed in 1996 by three guys from other rockabilly bands wanting to get together to play that wild and raw 50's rockabilly - but with a modern twist! Their first album was released in 1998 and ever since the band has been touring extensively. They have gigs almost every weekend. Mostly in Denmark - but more and more often also in Sweden, Germany and even the US, sharing the bill with The Go-Getters, Wildfire Willie & The Ramblers, Jack Baymoore & The Bandits, The Barnshakers etc. etc.
Wild Wax Combo already played Viva Las Vegas in 2000 and 2001. They played "Shake The Shack 2003" in Seatle and are already signed as a headliner for 2004.
Since the release of their superb second album in 2003, guitar player Paolo was replaced by André. It looks like the band is no longer using last names. André's story is a short one: he left the city, settled in the country, bought a cheap guitar, returned to Copenhagen as one hot guitar picker!
As their previous albums, like this one also released on Enviken, Wild Wax Combo's 3rd release is nothing less than excellent, and the fact that Paolo was replaced by André sure did not have any inlfuence on the quality of the songs and recordings. The album consist of 16 new tracks, 13 of which are originals written by Wild Wax Combo.
Wild Wax produces rockabilly music the way most rockers like it best. Authentic, but with enough originality to make a difference, all recorded with a high amount of energy the way a live recording would sound. The guitar breaks are all outstanding, backed by a steady slapping bass line and hard hitting drums. What more can I say? With Wild Wax Combo, you can't go wrong! Another 5 stars well deserved.
